In Milan, 750 km of bicycle paths will be created

Milan is committed to building 750 kilometers of bike lanes by 2035 as part of a plan to make the bicycle the most convenient mode of local transportation, says Dezeen.

Based on data on the daily movement of residents, the Cambio measure consolidates the existing bike lanes and supplements them with new "superbicycle corridors" linking the city of Milan on the Italian mainland and all 133 communes within its boundaries.

When the project is completed, 86% of Milan's population, including hospitals, schools and businesses, will be located within one kilometer of the bicycle route. The measure of 24 bikeways is scheduled to be completed in 2035, and by then the city expects that 20% of local transportation will be provided by bicycles.

The initiative is part of the big goal of the city to reach zero emissions by 2050, in accordance with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
